Even the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast doesn't know the answer to one of Endgame's biggest questions

With great power, comes a great many spoilers. And that’s not an easy thing for Tom Holland to deal with, considering he’s known for letting some things slip. But on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, while promoting the sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home, Engame spoilers were a must because of the newest trailer that throws all “don’t spoil” urges to the wind. So if you haven’t seen Endgame yet, all Marvel content is off limits until you do (sorry). And Kimmel asked the cast one of the biggest questions left at the end of the film: If everything takes place five years after The Snap, why are they all still in high school?

None of them—Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jacob Batalon, and Cobie Smulders—wanted to touch the timeline of the MCU. But as soon as Kimmel asks why the main crew are still teens, they become more confused than sophomores in an AP Calculus class. Holland doesn’t even know, asking for backup from the cast. “It might be one of the biggest plot holes of all time,” Batalon commented.

Of course, it’s already been confirmed by the director, Jon Watts, that they haven’t aged in five years, but that there will be other characters who have. “You don’t get to see any of the fallout in Endgame, and we get to explore that in our movie,” he said in an interview with Fandango. “It’s really interesting and fun.” It’s obviously something that’s addressed in the film, so the Spidey gang is really more worried about giving away more than they’re allowed. “I don’t wanna pull that thread,” Smulders said. “You know, I don’t know.”

Marvel is known for trying to keep their more spoiler-prone actors in check, Holland being one of them. So much so, that they told him the funeral at the end of the film was actually going to be a wedding before he got on set. So imagine his surprise (and dismay!) when he realized it was actually a funeral for Tony Stark. “So I show up to the ‘wedding’… And I was like, ‘Where’s Robert?’” All of this secrecy is fun to watch play out, and even better when it actually works and these movies deliver surprises. But hopefully Far From Home does give an explanation to the perpetual high school issue.
