Every episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? is on YouTube—for now, at least
Viewers who came of age during the increasingly-fondly-remembered Clinton years in this country are advised to brace themselves for the release of either endorphins or carefully-suppressed memories as they read these next few words: Midnight Society. Zeebo The Clown. SNICK. It’s all coming back now, isn’t it? Those long-gone Saturday nights spent rolled into a fetal ball, numb and glassy-eyed, on the living room carpet can now be relived thanks to the efforts of a super-diligent YouTuber called GhostlyTales TV who has posted every last episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, the Canadian horror anthology series that ran on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1996 with a brief revival in 1999-2000. A staggering 91 half-hour episodes were produced over the course of seven seasons. Minus commercials, that’s about 38 consecutive hours of mystical mirrors, lonely ghosts, shiny red bicycles, and (of course) dangerous soup. That’s just the perfect length for a two-day viewing binge with plenty of time left over for meals, bathroom breaks, and long telephone calls to one’s parents to ask them about what constitutes “appropriate” viewing for an impressionable child.
