Everybody shut up and look at Keanu Reeves on a horse
Attention, everybody: Keanu Reeves is on a horse. How do we know he’s on a horse? Well, while the actor was hard at work shooting John Wick 3: Parabellum (whose goofy subtitle can totally be explained, if you’re curious), photographers caught wind of a distinctive, barnyard smell drifting down the streets of Brooklyn. What they found was, as many hoped but few dared to expect, Keanu Reeves on a horse.
A short, fairly poor quality video of the event has now graced the internet. It shows, as you may have guessed, Reeves riding a horse. Dressed in the black suit and tie of his gun-shootin,’ dog-buryin’ character John Wick, Reeves seems fairly comfortable atop his similarly brooding steed. He pets it quite often and smiles between takes involving riding this horse down a street. What the final scene will entail is anybody’s guess, but we swear to Christ if this horse gets killed in order to spur the movie’s plot forward, Hollywood will have finally gone too far.
Erase these possibilities from your mind for the time being and simply enjoy the many pictures of Reeves on this horse that accompany the video. Like this action shot, which shows John Wick perhaps fleeing a barber shop without paying because “$20 is too much just to trim split ends.”
Or, if that doesn’t ignite your imagination, how about this photo of Reeves, a Reeves stunt double who looks like one of your pals at Halloween 2014 still explaining what John Wick even is, and a man we can assume is the horse’s handler. The staging of this image is masterful, its composition like The Raft Of The Medusa but with several Reeves and a horse replacing the French cannibals.
Maybe you don’t want something so busy. Maybe you just want something simple. Well, we have that, too.
Serious Reeves-heads know this isn’t the first time the actor has dabbled in the equestrian arts. As a young man, the seeds were sown (or, the hay was laid) for these behind-the-scenes horse images to exist through an educational CBC TV show about Ontario riding schools. Apparently the fluffy-haired, pre-fame Reeves was paying a lot of attention during this gig. Who could have guessed that all these years later, hard-hitting interview questions such as “Do you ever talk to your horse?” and a quick ride on one called “Ms. Vicky” would have brought Reeves to this point?
