Everything is still a remix, especially Star Wars

There’s nothing new under the sun, not even new clichés about how there’s nothing new under the sun. This is particularly true in the entertainment world, where influence begets creation in film, music, books, comics, television, and pretty much anything else you’ve ever enjoyed. It’s not a new notion, but filmmaker Kirby Ferguson explores the concepts of influence, inspiration, and downright rip-off in his highly informative and entertaining four-part web series “Everything Is A Remix.” The first part, released last fall, explored the world of sampling in music; the just-released second part concerns itself with film, with a particular emphasis on Star Wars (and, in the post-credits bonus, Kill Bill).

Kirby walks the walk as well, listing every reference and sample used in his clips in exhaustive detail on his website. Clearly a lot of work goes into these, which means you'll have to wait a while for the next installment; it's due in the spring.
