Everything Sucks! ironically does not appear to suck
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, February 16, and Saturday, February 17. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Everything Sucks! (Netflix): Netflix’s last bunch of retro kids was a gangbuster (and ghostbuster) hit, with scrappy youngsters turning Stranger Things into a giant score for the streaming service. This youth-based Netflix show is more Freaks And Geeks-esque comedy than horror, time-traveling to 1996, when Luke (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), son of a single mom, develops a crush on Kate (Peyton Kennedy), daughter of a single dad, who just happens to be the principal of the kids’ school in Boring, Oregon. And just like those Stranger Things kids, Luke, Kate, and their pals find solace in their school’s A.V. Club. We get it, Netflix.
Regular coverage
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Friday, The CW, 8 p.m.): Season three finale, and we’re already sorry to see it go.
Wild card
Planet Earth: Blue Planet II (BBC America, Saturday, 9 p.m.): If you’re tiring of Olympic coverage, we suggest a quick trip over to the BBC on Saturday to check out the latest episode out the latest episode of the Blue Planet II season of the compelling series Planet Earth. This week the show dives into the mystic wonderland of the “Green Seas,” which contains oceanic creatures even more bizarre than the ones in the Upside Down.
