Ewan McGregor joins Birds Of Prey as Batman villain Black Mask
Earlier this month, when Rosie Perez joined the cast of Suicide Squad spin-off Birds Of Prey as beloved Gotham City cop Renee Montoya, we also learned that the villain in the movie will be Black Mask. In the comics, Black Mask is basically just a glorified mobster who wears a skull helmet (or maybe it’s more of a mask?), so making him the villain should be a good chance for Birds Of Prey to use a recognizable bad guy who isn’t particularly well-established in mainstream pop culture. Now, according to Deadline, the movie has found its Black Mask in Ewan McGregor, a man whose handsome Jedi face will be wasted if it’s covered by a dark helmet for the whole movie.
In addition to Perez, McGregor will be facing off against Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn (you know, from Suicide Squad), Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary. There’s no word on if Batgirl will show up, even though she’s traditionally a member of the Birds Of Prey in the comics, but Birds Of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson is also working on the Batgirl movie, so maybe that means something.
