Ewan McGregor would like to come back to Star Wars
Everybody reacts to being in a Star Wars prequel differently. Natalie Portman went to Harvard. Liam Neeson realized he’d die if he ever stopped doing action movies. Samuel L. Jackson started showing up on movie sets and demanding to be in post-credits stingers. Hayden Christensen decided he liked space so much that he moved there and was never heard from again. Jake Lloyd…did some other stuff.
Ewan McGregor, though, has just kind of stuck with it. He hasn’t starred in a Marvel movie, he hasn’t earned an Ivy League degree, and he hasn’t taken cops on a high-speed chase. In a way, it seems like—against all odds—playing Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequels simply didn’t screw him up at all. Because of that, McGregor is apparently open to returning to the series (something Neeson has already done, having appeared in the Clone Wars cartoon), telling reporters at a film festival in Scotland recently that he’d “be happy to do the story from episodes three where I finish up and Alec Guinness starts.”
As far as we know—in Disney’s current Star Wars canon—Obi-Wan didn’t do anything between episodes III and IV other than grow way older than you’d think, start telling people to call him “Ben,” and practicing his krayt dragon impression. So it would be interesting to see him have a solo adventure we don’t know anything about. Plus, McGregor actually gave pretty good performances throughout the three prequels, so if anyone deserves to come back, we’re okay with it being him.
