Exclusive DC preview: Damian meets his furry flying pet in Robin: Son Of Batman #6
There has never been a better time to be a Robin fan. The four main Robins—Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne—all have their own ongoing series, We Are Robin has turned the Robin name into a youth movement, and Batman And Robin Eternal is telling a weekly story focused on Batman’s relationship with his sidekicks. DC is releasing four titles with Robin ties next week—an especially Batman-heavy week that includes the debut of Dark Knight III: The Master Race—but only one of those comics features a lovable baby monster licking Robin’s nose.
Written and drawn by Patrick Gleason, Robin: Son Of Batman has become a standout DC title thanks to its exciting action-adventure story, stunning artwork (featuring Mick Gray on inks and John Kalisz on colors), and charming character dynamics. The series follows Damian Wayne, his frenemy Maya Ducard, and their pet monster, Goliath, as they travel the world and help people that Damian hurt in his deadly past, and next week’s Robin: Son Of Batman #6 finally reveals the first meeting of Damian and Goliath.
This preview highlights the atmospheric environments, thrilling action staging, and rich characterizations that have made Gleason’s title so captivating, but it also adds a huge helping of cute in the form of baby Goliath, who watches as Damian slaughters his entire family. Their first interaction is both immensely adorable and totally tragic, and Gleason firmly establishes an emotional rapport between the characters that has only grown stronger over time.
