Exclusive: Hari Kondabolu announces new record, premieres first track

Inventive and groundbreaking comedian Hari Kondabolu is back with a new stand-up record, Mainstream American Comic, due out July 22 on Kill Rock Stars. Recorded live at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Kondabolu’s record takes a funny but pointed look at race, gender, and politics, something that’s evident in the track The A.V. Club is premiering exclusively below. On “My Mom (Accent Not Included),” Kondabolu muses on his parents, including his dad, who Kondabolu says thinks he’s Aziz Ansari.

Kondabolu’s previous record, Waiting For 2042, was named one of The A.V. Club’s best comedy records of 2014. Kondabolu is currently working on launching a podcast with his buddy and former employer W. Kamau Bell, and will be touring in support of Mainstream American Comic this summer.
