Exclusive Marvel preview: Villains save the day in Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #3

Magneto is just full of bad ideas right now. First he killed the Red Skull and unleashed the raging force of hate known as Red Onslaught, and now the Master of Magnetism has assembled a team of some of the Marvel Universe’s most unsavory characters to take down the evil he let loose. It had been announced months ago that Marvel’s latest event would see heroes and villains switching roles, and the final chapter of the first act of Rick Remender’s Avengers & X-Men: Axis takes considerable steps toward that new status quo, although it’s still a mystery how a team of bad guys will convince the world to accept them after they’ve taken out Red Onslaught.

Joining Rick Remender for Axis #3 are artist Leinil Yu, inker Gerry Alanguilan, and colorists Matt Milla, Laura Martin, and Edgar Delgado, and these preview pages of next week’s issue have the intense energy and large scale that have made Yu one of the top talents in superhero comics. Yu can draw the hell out of a two-page spread, and the shot of Magneto and his villainous team taking down Onslaught and his Sentinels is one of the event’s most impactful images yet. If Marvel’s PR is to be believed, Axis #3 marks a major turning point in the story, but the main attraction for this issue is Remender’s return to Deadpool, a character he did exceptional work with in his Uncanny X-Force run.
