Exclusive: Mike O’Brien, John Mulaney, and Fred Armisen are the “Elephant Man’s Boyz”

Plenty of comedians are releasing stand-up albums even now, when the record industry’s in the can. Mike O’Brien, on the other hand, is releasing a sketch comedy album. The former SNL cast member and writer is set to drop Tasty Radio on October 30 via Comedy Dynamics and says the album is more like an Adam Sandler or Nichols And May-style sketch LP than it is like a traditional “recording of a set on a stage” LP. Specifically, O’Brien says the record is meant to mimic the sensation of scrolling through radio stations, occasionally returning to one you might have liked to check back in.

O’Brien also enlisted a bunch of his comedic friends for the record, including Jason Sudeikis, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Cecily Strong, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Hader, and John Mulaney. First single “Fun Girls” was released earlier this month and featured pop-ups from Strong, Hader, Armisen, and O’Brien, as well as Marika Sawyer, Vanessa Bayer, and Nasim Pedrad.

Below, The A.V. Club is premiering “Elephant Man’s Boyz,” the next single from the record. Featuring appearances from Mulaney and Armisen, the track is basically Entourage mixed with the sad, mournful tale of Joseph “The Elephant Man” Merrick, the legendarily deformed man who, in this sketch, has trouble pulling chicks. It’s both awkward and funny, not unlike much of what O’Brien has done in the past, and definitely gives a good sense of what the comedian’s going for on Tasty Radio.
