Expanded Avatar to get theatrical re-release in August

To the surprise of no one, James Cameron has announced that he will re-release last winter’s sci-fi epic/cultural phenomenon/cash cow Avatar into digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D theaters on August 27. In addition to the inclusion of eight minutes of extra footage, 20th Century Fox’s self-congratulatory justification is as follows: “Since—and largely as of result of—Avatar's release last December, the number of available digital 3-D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3-D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity.” You’d think that they’d want to repair all those exploded screens before the re-release, but whatever.
