Ezra Miller in talks to join the Harry Potter spinoff
Ezra Miller, the guy we need to talk about when We Need To Talk About Kevin, is apparently in talks to appear opposite Eddie Redmayne in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the upcoming spinoff to Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling’s magically profitable Harry Potter franchise. If all goes as planned, Miller will play a character named Kredan in the film, described as “a person with magical powers,” in what may be the most useful Harry Potter character synopsis ever penned.
The film, which takes place 70 years before The Boy Who Lived did that living he did, stars Redmayne as Newt Scamander, an investigator of magical creatures. His pursuits eventually take him to New York, where he’ll encounter Kredan and the previously cast Katherine Waterston, playing fellow magic user Tina.
According to Variety, the film has two roles left to cast, including Tina’s younger sister, Queenie, and Jacob, a rival of Scamander’s. In case you were wondering about how droll or curly haired the latter character is expected to be, it might be good to know that Josh Gad and Michael Cera are both being considered for the part.
If Miller signs on for the film, it’ll be his second franchise commitment with Warner Bros. in a short span of time. (Fantastic Beasts is planned as the first film in a trilogy). The actor has already been cast as The Flash for the studio’s Justice League film series, and is set to debut as the character when Batman V. Superman: Rise Of The Increasingly Long Movie Title opens next March. (Miller’s version of The Flash is not to be confused with Grant Gustin’s portrayal of the same character on The CW’s The Flash, which airs on TV.
