Facebook is rescuing Nicole Byer’s canceled MTV show

As it prepares to leap into the TV business, Facebook is taking a cue from the streaming services that came before and getting into the business of saving shows from cancellation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the social-media giant is planning to give a second life to Nicole Byer‘s Loosely Exactly Nicole, which MTV said goodbye to in February. THR reports that the series—based on Byer’s own life—will be one of Facebook’s “tentpole projects,” and that writers are already on board along with showrunner Christine Zander.

An earlier story from Business Insider indicated that the company was going to unveil its TV enterprise sometime this month, and was prepping both full length projects and short form content. Though Loosely Exactly Nicole wasn’t a ratings success on cable, perhaps Facebook’s head of development Mina Lefevre, who worked on the show while at MTV, believes it just needs a different platform to garner a loyal audience.
