Faith No More talk new album and announce a new motherfucking single

Back in May, Faith No More teased—via Twitter, of course—the possibility of more activity, and possibly even a new album. This was big news for fans of the band, who’ve waded through a ton of side projects in the 17 years since Album Of The Year. The band offered a brief spasm of reunion shows in 2009, but has otherwise been quiet. In an interview with Rolling Stone that posted today, bassist Billy Gould announced that the band is mostly done with a new record, and that it will be released by the Faith No More’s new self-run label, Reclamation Records, in April of 2015. The album will be preceded by a single, “Motherfucker,” to be released on Black Friday, November 28, as part of Record Store Day. The song sounds typically atypical (you can see a live version below), and the interview makes it sound like the band is in a great place to make music together again: free of old record contracts, confident as musicians, and excited to play for people. Given singer Mike Patton’s fierce sensibility—not to mention his desire not to “spray diarrhea” over the band’s legacy—there is reason for optimism here.
