Faking It gets real in season premiere

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Monday, August 31. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Faking It (MTV, 9:30 p.m.): Faking It returns, and in the season three premiere, Shane leads a revolution when a new principle comes to Hester and tries to crack down on the progressive behaviors of Hester students. Meanwhile, Amy becomes convinced that Karma is hiding a secret, which she definitely is, because Karma is the worst. We’re hoping season three of Faking It finally allows Amy to realize that and also that Karma doesn’t sing any songs. Nobody wants that, Karma! We’re also hoping for more Lauren in season three.

Also noted

Awkward (MTV, 9 p.m.): Awkward also returns to MTV tonight, picking up shortly after spring break, where we ended last season. Jenna is busy trying to not think about Matty, but of course she can’t help think about Matty. These two! They’re always getting in their own way of being together. But graduation is on the horizon, so they need to GTSFO (an acronym we imagine Tamara would create for “get their shit figured out”). Welcome back, Awkward.

Regular coverage

WWE Monday Night Raw (USA, 8 p.m.)

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox, 8 p.m.)

Elsewhere in TV Club

We’re up to our ears in reboots, and Ryan Vlastelica has some thoughts on the reboot lessons taught by Wet Hot American Summer. And the latest TV Club Inventory looks at characters who made late entrances into their respective shows but actually made the show better—or at least added something valuable.

What else is on?

Significant Mother (The CW, 9:30 p.m.): The significant mother’s mother—played by Linda Gray—is in town, so Lydia tries to hide her relationship with Jimmy. But Jimmy just wants his girlfriend’s mom’s approval, which he tries much too hard to earn.

Bachelor In Paradise (ABC, 8 p.m.): Ashley I. gets jealous and decides to do something no Bachelor In Paradise contestant has ever done, making a special request from Chris Harrison for a special favor: an overnight fantasy suite date. Ashley I. is on a mission, y’all.

Bachelor In Paradise: After Paradise (ABC, 9 p.m.): Kris Jenner drops in to discuss the events of Bachelor In Paradise with cast members, and boy does she have opinions!

Running Wild With Bear Grylls (NBC, 10 p.m.): Michael B. Jordan meets up with Bear in Wales to look very handsome while scaling cliffs and navigate some very choppy water.

Annie (Starz, 6:55 p.m.): An overlooked subplot in the new Annie is how Rose Byrne’s character keeps joking about how she definitely, totally has friends when it’s very apparent that she definitely, totally doesn’t have friends.

Hannibal Rising (Syfy, 9 p.m.): Watching this movie will do nothing to ease your Hannibal mourning period, but to be fair, nothing will.

MLB Baseball: Yankees at Red Sox (ESPN, 7 p.m.): If you watch baseball, you probably have a lot of opinions about this matchup.

In case you missed it

Fear The Walking Dead: Did you watch last night’s Fear The Walking Dead? Did you read Josh Modell’s review of last night’s Fear The Walking Dead? Do that.
