Fall schedule announcement: The CW banishes the last vestiges of The WB to the margins

When The WB and UPN merged to form The CW in 2006, it appeared that the former entity figured most prominently in the new network’s identity. And yeah, sure, The WB was the original home of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Smallville, and Roswell, but keep going with us here: You’re unlikely to sell anything like Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls, or Everwood to The CW at this point—unless you set it in space. (In which case, let us tell you about a little project we’re working on called Stars Hollow…) With Hart Of Dixie and The Carrie Diaries pushed squarely to the edges of the lineup, the genre-ification of their network is complete, a turn best exemplified by The Vampire Diaries’ proliferation via The Originals. Oh, and also the schedule announcement press release that endows the Monday portion of this new schedule with “Southern Charm and Epic Romance”—so hopefully Beauty And The Beast has been retooled into an Antebellum period piece.
