Family living in haunted house looking for nanny in real-life horror movie
Who needs horror movies when a family living in a haunted house in the Scottish Borders is looking for a nanny to care for their children, prepare breakfast, and clutch their covers at night, which is presumably when the shutters get creaky and footsteps can be heard in the sealed-up attic (they have to have one).
The ad appeared on Childcare.co.uk, and whoever wrote it isn’t the superstitious kind. “We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years,” it says. “We were told it was ‘haunted’ when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless.”
“Five nannies have left the role in the last year,” the ad continues, “each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving. This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children. We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house.” You can practically hear their eyes rolling during that last sentence.
Because of this hazard, the family is offering a generous salary of £50,000 a year, which also includes 28 days of vacation and a living space with a private kitchen. But, if the response to the ad is to believed, it’s the ghosts that are the biggest selling point. Earlier today, this addendum was added to the ad:
Thank you to everyone who has contacted us. We have been overwhelmed by the response and have received over 2000 messages in relation to the position. Due to the vast number of enquiries, we unfortunately aren’t able to respond to everyone individually. It has been a difficult time for us recently and the number of applicants and messages offering support and help are hugely appreciated. Thanks again for all the interest.
Good luck to the family in discerning which of them is an actual nanny and which are just amateur ghost hunters in disguise.
