Fan-created WALL-E and Doctor Who Lego sets are on their way

Everything is awesome for those whose interests include tiny colorful bricks, time travel, and Pixar, as Lego just announced plans to release Doctor Who and WALL-E themed Lego sets. The concepts stem from Lego Ideas, a project that allows anyone to submit potential designs to be voted on by fans, judged by a team of Lego specialists, and potentially produced by the company. The WALL-E and Doctor Who sets will join the ranks of previous winning projects, including Ghostbusters, Minecraft, Back To The Future, and the NASA Curiosity Rover. On the flip side, this year’s rejected ideas include a Jules Verne train, “Assault On Wayne Manor,” an Apple Store, and “X-Men: X-Mansion,” meaning Lego fans can’t have Batman and the X-Men ride a Jules Verne train to buy new iPhones…yet.

Info on product design, pricing, and availability of the winning sets is still forthcoming, but according to the concept designs, the WALL-E set is basically one figure that can be constructed out of Lego pieces. In cool bit of trivia, the set was actually designed by Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who worked on the film and created the model during that process. Meanwhile, the Doctor Who and Companions” set, created by gaming artist Andrew Clark, will feature minifigures of the Doctor and his companions and enemies as well as an unfolding TARDIS (seen in this video).

Concept designs for the WALL-E and Doctor Who sets are below, although these could change somewhat in production. Those who want to vote on the next round of contenders (sets must earn 10,000 votes to be considered) or examine the concepts currently up for review can do so on the Lego Ideas website.
