Fandango will launch its own VOD service on March 30
Fandango is moving forward with its plans for world domination—we mean, digital video distribution—as Deadline reports the company will launch its own VOD service on March 30. Fandango picked up Dreamworks Animation’s M-GO movie-streaming service in late January, which it has since rebranded as FandangoNOW (the shouty caps presumably intended to reflect the urgency of users to watch the movies they didn’t get around to seeing in theaters).
FandangoNOW will be available across the internet and on iOS, Android, and Roku devices, as well as on smart TVs. Its launch will follow the VOD releases of Oscar winners like The Hateful Eight and The Revenant, which will become a part of the service’s “library of major studio releases and next-day TV shows for purchase or rental.” Fandango president Paul Yanover described the launch as a “huge milestone for the company, as we aim to deliver the best movie experience anytime and anywhere, across the total movie lifecycle.”
The VOD rollout comes after the news that Fandango had acquired Rotten Tomatoes and Flixster, so Yanover isn’t overstating his company’s participation in the “total movie lifecycle.” After all, Fandango recently gave ticket buyers a new deity in the form of Kenan Thompson, who also stands at the pearly gates to greet ushers who died in the line of duty.
