Fargo goes to dinner

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, May 31. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Fargo (FX, 10 p.m.): The seventh installment of season three of FX’s strange and absorbing crime drama continues apace, with the episode’s description again demonstrating that someone at the channel has a master’s degree in minimalist fact-stating: “Gloria tries to work around the system, Nikki finds herself in a familiar place, Varga comes up with an alternative plan, and Emmit goes to dinner.”

Regular coverage

The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)

Wild card

Nova (PBS, 9 p..m.): Despite the media ceasing to give a shit about it, the water crisis in Flint, Michigan never actually got adequately resolved. And unbeknownst to most people, there are similar crises unfolding in other cities around the country. This episode of Nova, “Poisoned Water,” looks into the chemistry and engineering behind the crisis there and elsewhere, in order to see how shortsightedness, corruption, and the slashing of available resources (thanks, people who genuinely think government is just a burden!) has helped bring about third world conditions in the U.S.
