Fear The Walking Dead breaks another ratings record
Like someone foolishly enjoying a brief moment of happiness in the joy-hating world of The Walking Dead, AMC has become eerily adept at drawing in the hungering hordes, announcing today that its zombified spinoff Fear The Walking Dead has broken another ratings record. The series is now the most-watched first season of a TV show in cable history, with an average of 11.2 million viewers tuning in every week to watch Kim Dickens and her crew slowly get wise to the zombie apocalypse.
Fear The Walking Dead previously grabbed headlines by scoring cable’s highest-rated debut with its pilot episode, beating out the network’s own Better Call Saul for the title. (Boring, old, regular The Walking Dead—whose last season easily topped Fear’s numbers, and which is expected to do just as well when it returns this Sunday—held the record before the Breaking Bad spinoff aired). Lending credence to AMC’s decision to renew the series for a 15-episode second season before any of its six initial episodes even aired, Fear The Walking Dead is currently the second-highest rated new series on TV, trailing only behind the crazy juggernaut that is Empire on Fox.
