Ferris Bueller’s Alan Ruck to star in Fox’s Exorcist show

Leveraging his hard-earned experience managing teenagers whose precocious natures make them something of a handful, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Alan Ruck has been bumped up to a series regular on Fox’s forthcoming The Exorcist. Ruck guest-starred on the series pilot, where he played Geena Davis’ husband, Henry Rance, who’s apparently been paralyzed after an accident that may or may not have something to do with the demons taking an unauthorized (but probably pretty exhilarating) joy ride in his daughter’s head. The character is described as a good man who’s “trapped in his own body,” so presumably, Ruck’s character would like it if someone would let his Henry go.

But we kid Ruck, whose long career has more highlights than just one iconic John Hughes movie. For instance, Henry hopefully won’t be sent over The Edge when Alfonso Herrera’s young priest arrives on the scene to investigate The Whispers his wife is hearing in the walls of their home. Meanwhile, old priest Ben Daniels will likely speak some Greek at some point, as he tries to Muscle the demon out of Henry’s college-age little girl. And once the necks start turning and the pea soup starts flying, well, what else could we call that but a real Spin City? (We would also have accepted Twister for this dumb joke.)

The Exorcist will air on Friday nights on Fox, starting in the fall.
