FILMography Tumblr matches movie frames with their real-life locations
If you’re a cinephile, strolling around a city like New York can feel like visiting a giant film set, with the ghosts of movies past lurking around every corner. On his remarkable Tumblr FILMography, Christopher Moloney has found an innovative way to match film frames with their real-life counterparts. Moloney prints out a black-and-white frame from a notable movie—The Dark Knight Rises, say—brings the photo out in front of his camera, and matches the image with the actual location. The site includes shots of Three Days Of The Condor, Ghost, The French Connection, Taxi Driver, and many others. It’s a great argument for how movies can transform actual locations—and vice versa.
