Final Batman: Arkham game coming this year
The final game in the Batman: Arkham series is coming this year, Warner Bros. announced today with a swanky Game Informer cover. Titled Batman: Arkham Knight, it sees the return of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City developer Rocksteady to the helm. (Last year’s more forgettable Arkham Origins was made by rookie studio Warner Bros. Games Montreal.) This new game, which Warner promises will be “the ultimate and complete Batman experience” because the other ones weren’t ultimate enough, expands the Dark Knight’s jurisdiction to the entirety of Gotham City—presumably a much larger area than Arkham City or Origins, and hopefully less empty. To help Batman traverse his new digs, Arkham Knight will mark the first time Rocksteady includes a drivable Batmobile in the games. And he’ll be using it to chase down a band of supervillains united by the Scarecrow, who returns to the series after being the best part of Arkham Asylum.
As for the all-important question of who will be performing the voice of Batman, nothing has been announced so far. However, Kevin Conroy, the beloved Batman of The Animated Series and the first two Arkham games, mentioned last year that he has been working on a new Arkham project that turned out not to be Origins, so his return is a possibility. Arkham Knight is scheduled for release sometime in 2014 (the smart money is on either next week or October) on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Here’s the debut trailer, which doesn’t include any footage of the game:
