Finally, proof that Back To The Future II’s hoverboards were real
It’s 2015 and Universal has released a trailer for Jaws 19, fans can buy a $20 bottle of Pepsi Perfect, and the Chicago Cubs look like they could be on their way to their first World Series win since 1908. All these events happened in 1989’s Back To The Future II. So Universal keeps surprising fans with more Back To The Future content as we close in on October 21 (a.k.a. Back To The Future Day). Now there’s a commercial for Hover Boards.
Of course, since we must be living in an alternate timeline, this Hover Board is not from Mattel, but from a company called Hover Master. This is no doubt due to the fan theory that the driver of the Rolls Royce that Marty hits (or doesn’t hit) in 1985 was a Mattel executive who said no to the Hover Board pitch. While this commercial contends to be “fake,” most Back To The Future fans are aware that Hover Boards have existed since before 1989, but according to director Robert Zemeckis, “parents’ groups would not let toy manufacturers make them.” Instead, ’80s kids got the Pogo Ball.
