Have you gotten sick of unsolicited dick pics from finance guys who work hard and play hard? Would you rather get unsolicited dick pics from tech guys who work hard on their coding and play hard building cities in Warcraft? Well, you’re in luck: DragonFruit, a dating site catering specifically to geeks, launched last week.
“We’ve found that many geeks feel the need to put on a secret identity just to impress their matches,” DragonFruit founder Orie Enav says, referring to the multitude of “weirdo Americans” online who must hide their interest in Twin Peaks and witches and lie about how much they love traveling, brunch, and going out as well as staying in. “We believe you should not have to disguise yourself as Clark Kent just to find a date,” explained Enav, although a fake pair of glasses might help your chances. “Instead, we want folks to feel comfortable in their own skin and be themselves on DragonFruit,” continues Enay. “Be Superman.” One caveat though, if you’re a woman, you better be prepared to answer 100 questions about Superman—you know, to prove that you’re not just a fake geek girl.
The site will match users based on a series of questions based on their love of Star Wars, Marvel, Star Trek, and assorted other cultish “fandoms” that Hollywood and the general public ignore. Through this series of questions, the site ranks your level of geek, which is perfect for those who think that the Nice Guys Of OkCupid are simply too nice. Those who are determined to be perpetuating a lie about their geek lifestyle will judged by a nerd tribunal, presumably consisting of Kevin Smith, Chris Hardwick, and Felicia Day. This “death panel” will then cast fake nerds to Plenty Of Fish, the Mos Eisley of online dating sites.
Of course, DragonFruit was quite proud to announce that the developers did not use any pre-existing code to create this app.
