Fiona Apple records anti-Trump chant for the Women’s March on Washington

Hundreds of thousands of women are set to gather in Washington D.C. and at sister marches around the world on Saturday to protest both Donald Trump’s presidency and inequality at large. And while there are plenty of potential musical choices to accompany these Women’s Marches (YG & Nipsey Hussle’s “Fuck Donald Trump” is definitely an option), Fiona Apple has released a brand new track just for the occasion. It’s more of a chant than a song, although it does feature some piano and drum backing. The minute-long track starts by sampling Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood recording and features Apple defiantly declaring ,“we don’t want your tiny hands / anywhere near our underpants.”

Apple created “Tiny Hands” along with composer Michael Whalen. This isn’t her first brush with anti-Trump music: Although she doesn’t appeared to have endorsed or campaigned for a candidate during the election, in December she turned “The Christmas Song” (a.k.a. “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”) into a parody song called “Trump’s Nuts Roasting On An Open Fire.” This new track, however, is a reminder of just how low the bar is set for Trump—getting him not to objectify and assault women feels like a big ask.

Apple’s song is meant to be used as a chant during the Women’s March on Washington. It’s unclear if Apple herself plans to march in the event, but plenty of other famous faces have pledged to attend, including Cher, Solange, Katy Perry, Tracee Ellis Ross, America Ferrera, Zendaya, Scarlett Johansson, Olivia Wilde, and Debra Messing.
