Yup, Rosemary’s Baby prequel, Apartment 7A, looks like a Rosemary’s Baby prequel
In a perfect world, this would be called “Don’t Trust The Bae In Apartment 7A”
Paramount+ released the first photographic evidence of its Rosemary’s Baby prequel, Apartment 7A. Telling the story of another poor pixie-haired woman manipulated by creepy neighbors and, presumably, a man who is one sick SOB in league with the devil, the show described as a prequel looks like a remake.
Set a few years before Roman Polanski’s original, Apartment 7A introduces us to the antichrist’s carrier before Rosemay. Taking over for Mia Farrow, Julia Garner stars a young dancer named Terry, who moves into New York City’s beautiful Bramford apartment building to chase her Broadway dreams. After she suffers a career-altering injury, her off-putting neighbors (Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally, replacing Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer) nurse the woman back to health and then some. They introduce her to another Bramford resident, a Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess), but after one hazy night, things start to look a little strange, like maybe she has a Rosemary’s Baby growing in her tummy.
There’s not a ton to say about this. Apartment 7A looks exactly like a Rosemary’s Baby prequel. Still, few can play distressed as well as Garner, so between her and Wiest, we may be in for some fun and upsetting performances. Perhaps there are new terrors to mine in the story of a single woman instead of someone married to John Cassavetes. After all, we already had a crack at a Rosemary’s Baby remake. Who could forget NBC’s Paris-set Rosemary’s Baby miniseries?
At the very least, Apartment 7A is a movie, not an overlong miniseries. It premieres on Paramount+ on September 27.
