First trailer for DC's Swamp Thing series is very, literally dark
Following last week’s reports of a potentially troubled production, DC Universe has released the first official trailer for Swamp Thing, the new series produced by James Wan. And just in case Wan’s involvement didn’t give you clue, maybe the ultra-dim lighting will help your brain process that this is a horror show. It’s dark. Literally dark. Does ol’ Swampy have access to some accent lighting or is that a fire hazard?
Starring Derek Mears as the eponymous comic book hero and Andy Bean as his human counterpart Alec Holland, Swamp Thing premieres May 31 on DC Universe. The first season is comprised of 10 episodes, reduced from the initial 13-episode order (reportedly the result of a last-minute “creative decision”), and also stars Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane—seen in the trailer working in a morgue when a dead body begins sprouting tree branches and roots. It could very well be the arrival of Jason Woodrue, aka the Floronic Man, aka Plant-Master (or some iteration thereof). That sorta fits with the official synopsis from DC Universe:
“Swamp Thing” follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
