Flaming Lips Galore

Things have been quiet in Flaming Lips Land over the past couple of years, but there's about to be a flurry of activity down OK City way. On October 25th, The Flaming Lips' second annual Halloween parade, "The March Of 1000 Flaming Skeletons," will take place in Oklahoma City's Bricktown district, with "festive floats, (in)appropriately adorned cars, walking groups, and plenty of surprises." (That's right: walking groups. What could be spookier than that?) Lips fans who want to participate in the march are invited to register at www.flaminglips.com/store, for the chance to be handed a skeleton costume and a working torch. But be warned, "Participants must be at least 18 years of age, in sound/stable mental faculty, and agree to participate in a safe, responsible manner as we're talking about actual hot flaming fire here."

For those Lips-heads who can't make the journey, it's time to start marking off the days until the long-delayed release of Christmas On Mars, the movie that the band has been shooting in Wayne Coyne's backyard for much of the last decade. Christmas On Mars will be released in selected theaters on November 11th, and will be available on iTunes and on a special edition DVD that same day. The special edition comes with a copy of the soundtrack, a collectible movie ticket, a postcard set, a special popcorn box, an "Eat Your Own Spaceship" sticker, and a T-shirt. And of course, the movie, which according to early reports, is a lo-fi head-trip that may actually be too heavy for Superman to lift.
