Foo Fighters announce new album, their own festival
The Foo Fighters have been teasing new music for a while now; earlier this month, the band released its first single in a few years, “Run,” and finished a recent show in Reykjavik by busting out a bunch of previously unheard tunes. Now, the group has announced that a new studio album is on its way, with Variety reporting that Concrete And Gold is set to arrive on September 15. The album—the band’s ninth—will see them team up with an unlikely producer: pop mastermind Greg Kurstin, who’s previously worked with folks like Katy Perry, Adele, and Pink. “I wanted it to be the biggest sounding Foo Fighters record ever,” frontman Dave Grohl said in a statement. “To make a gigantic rock record but with Greg Kurstin’s sense of melody and arrangement… Motorhead’s version of Sgt. Pepper… or something like that.”
The band’s members announced today that they not only intend to support the album’s release with an international tour, but their own music festival. California Jam 17—the name’s a reference to a pair of classic shows from 1974 and 1978, feature acts like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath—will feature a Foo Fighters-curated selection of performers, including Queens of the Stone Age, Cage The Elephant, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, Royal Blood, Japandroids, Wolf Alice, Bob Mould, and more, and will hit California on October 7, just ahead of the band’s oncoming tour.
