For a better telling of Green Book, look no further than the Smithsonian Channel

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Monday, February 25. All times are Eastern.

Top Pick

The Green Book: Guide To Freedom (Smithsonian Channel, VOD, 8 p.m.): For those dissatisfied with Green Book’s naive pondering on racism and historical rewritings, look no further than the Smithsonian Channel’s TV documentary The Green Book: Guide To Freedom. Written and directed by Yoruba Richen, whose last film, The New Black, tackled the intersectionality of race and sexuality in the black community, Guide To Freedom dives into the history of the Jim Crow-era guidebook written by Victor Hugo Green, which many black motorists used to understand which establishments were safe for them to patronize.

The doc premieres on Smithsonian Channel tonight as part of the network’s Black History Month initiative, but is currently available across VOD platforms for free.

Regular coverage

I Am The Night (TNT, 9 p.m.)

Wild card

American Dad (TBS, 10 p.m.): Family Guy isn’t the only Seth MacFarlane-produced animated sitcom still chugging along. American Dad celebrates its 250th episode tonight by having Stan take over Roger’s different personas “after a tumor takes him out of commission.”
