For a brief, shining moment, Stephen Colbert was in the Violent Femmes

The Violent Femmes are set to release We Can Do Anything, their first full-length album in 15 years, on March 4. The album comprises songs that had languished in frontman Gordon Gano’s “trove of old cassette demos and journals,” as well as new songs co-written by Sam Hollander, Dave Katz, and Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin. Their stumping for We Can Do Anything included a recent visit to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where they performed “Memory,” one of the latest additions to their oeuvre. They also invited host Stephen Colbert to join them on “Blister In The Sun,” though the video of that performance was only released after the show had wrapped. You can watch Colbert chiming in on the final string of “Let me go on’s” and “Big hands, I know you’re the one’s” (his Gano impression is rather spot-on) in the first video below, and the Violent Femmes’ performance of “Memory” in the second.
