In the upcoming film Woman Walks Ahead, Michael Greyeyes plays famed warrior and holy man Sitting Bull, while Jessica Chastain is Caroline Weldon, his confidant and portrait painter. Set in the late 19th century, the movie uses the dispossession of the Lakota people’s land in the Dakotas as a narrative backdrop. Filming took place during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, and in the video above, Chastain and Greyeyes discuss the unfortunate parallels between the 130-year-old story their movie is telling and the ongoing struggles of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
