Last year, a YouTube compilation of “Sorkinisms” popped up to show just how many times Aaron Sorkin could reuse his own special brand of aphorisms and obscure quotations. Now, with the added benefit of 10 first-season episodes of The Newsroom, there are even more connections to be made between all of Sorkin’s work, including his commencement address at Syracuse. If nothing else, it shows just how similar President Bartlett and Will McAvoy are, right down to similar fathers. It’s almost hard to believe how many passing references to Belgium, trashcans on fire, and drinks to the face Sorkin has used over the years, but he probably doesn’t give a damn because he’s 50 or 100 times smarter than you. And he’s never even sick at sea.
