Forget the Joker—Jared Leto would love to make a rom-com

It’s hard work being Jared Leto. Most of us spent the majority of our time adhering to basic social norms, whether it be in terms of dress, mannerisms, or a general respect for other people’s boundaries. To continually exceed the accepted behavior of the social contract, whether by mailing your coworkers used condoms or simply choosing to wear clothing that makes even steampunk devotees think, “that is just silly looking,” can be exhausting. So much so, even Leto himself occasionally dreams of a break from his tireless efforts to blow your freakin’ mind, man. And while doing yoga in a tie-dyed onesie—while you prep for making more music with a band that never met a full-body bath in Manic Panic it didn’t like—may help center you, it’s not as relaxing as, say, doing a rom-com.

Which is why Leto dropped the veil of nonstop mainstream-challenging intensity to admit he’d maybe like to just woo a lady or fella in an amiable romantic comedy vehicle. In an interview with E! News, the actor/musician/Jordan Catalano endorsed the notion of a sunny feel-good role as a break from all this Suicide Squad Joker nonsense. “Wouldn’t that be nice? We could shoot in Hawaii. We’ll do the junket in Hawaii,” he enthused, as the Adam Sandler method of moviemaking slowly took hold in his mind. “I can just be my normal non-waxed self,” he added, as though his skin care regimen for the last couple of movies were anything but an ongoing piece of the performance-art puzzle that is “Jared Leto.” But we all yearn for something simple and relaxed now and again, and Leto is no exception. “That would be wonderful. That would be fun. I would like to do something.”

Admittedly, that’s a bit in contradiction to his stated desire to just keep this Joker gravy train rolling along, in which he would do it “a couple more times and then retire.” But all you squares don’t even get what he means when he says “retire.” It’s like a whole new perspective on the term, and it is going to freak. You. Out. When you see it, bro. When you see it.
