Forking noice: The Good Place and Brooklyn Nine-Nine both return tonight

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (NBC, 9 p.m.)/The Good Place (NBC, 9:30 p.m.): Welcome to Michael Schur Thursday! (Schursday? We’re workshopping it.) Two of TV’s best comedies now sit back-to-back in NBC’s “must see” block, each either created or co-created by the former Mose Schrute. It’ll only be this way for three weeks—The Good Place ends its excellent third season on January 24, while the resurrected Nine-Nine is just getting started—but let’s enjoy the wonder while it lasts.
Brooklyn’s finest return with a honeymoon and the resolution of a cliffhanger, while the Soul Squad seems to have arrived in the Good Place Proper for the first time ever. We wouldn’t forking miss it for the world. Nine-Nine!

Fake The Great Masterpiece (Ovation, 6 a.m.): This isn’t the wackiest premise for a reality show we’ve ever heard, but we’re intrigued nevertheless. This “factual entertainment series” asks citizens of the United Kingdom to put on their deerstalker hats and go on the hunt for seven forged masterpieces hanging in galleries throughout the country. Every episode will look at a different period of British art, so there’s an educational factor, but mostly we’re expecting people with excellent manners running around in museums and staring weirdly hard at brush strokes. The first two episodes will air back-to-back at the crack of dawn this morning.
