Fox considering TV channel that plays nothing but The Simpsons

By now there are enough episodes of The Simpsons to sustain several future generations, and with its 500th outing rapidly approaching and no signs of stopping, it’s reasonable to assume that The Simpsons could last well into the 23rd century, where it will spark an apocalyptic war between the last remaining nitrogen-breathing lizard-people and their cyborg enemies over which season marks the turning point where it started to sort of suck. But already there are so many Simpsons episodes stockpiled that Fox is considering devoting an entire digital cable channel to nothing but: News Corp. COO Chase Carey recently told an audience at the Bank of America/Merrill Lynch Media Communications & Entertainment Conference (probably less wild than it sounds) that there have been a “number of meetings” regarding the possibility of an all-Simpsons network, noting the responsibility of taking full advantage of a show with “a volume that is unprecedented.” Of course, before any of that could happen, Fox would have to wrap up all of the show’s current long-term syndication deals, but it’s not totally implausible to think that someday soon, you’ll be able to filter all of your culture entirely through The Simpsons—which, actually, wouldn’t be a drastic change for a lot of us.
