Fox delays Gambit, schedules two unnamed Marvel films
Collider reports that Fox has pulled Gambit’s October 2016 release and scheduled two dates for unknown Marvel films. Gambit—wherein Channing Tatum will presumably don a trench coach and a suspicious Cajun accent to play everyone’s eleventh-favorite X-Man—hasn’t gone before cameras yet, so the studio has delayed its October release in order to give director Doug Liman enough time to make the film’s quality more akin to Edge Of Tomorrow than Jumper.
While Fox has not announced a new release date for Gambit, it has slated two release dates for mystery Marvel projects: October 6, 2017, and January 12, 2018. Whatever is occupying the first release date will go up against Andy Serkis’ The Jungle Book: Origins, and the film coming out on the second date will face off with Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner sequel.
Collider notes that, since the first date is roughly one year after Gambit’s originally slated release, Fox might have simply given Tatum and Liman another whole year to execute their balletic card throws. The publication predicts that the second date belongs to either Deadpool 2 or X-Force, which are both priority now that the first Deadpool has proven that movie theaters are actually open in late winter.
