Fox holds Red Band Society’s hand as it pulls the plug

It seems America actually isn’t all that excited to watch a bunch of photogenic young kids slowly die of serious diseases. In news that will probably come as a shock to the creators of Red Band Society and zero other people, Deadline reports that Fox is stopping production on its hourlong drama Red Band Society.

The series about the residents and staff of a pediatric ward failed to take off in the ratings, leading the network to yank it from the schedule after the tenth episode. Despite the presence of Oscar winner (and “scary bitch”) Octavia Spencer as well as strong network support, the show couldn’t convince viewers that spending time in a credibility-straining locale with montages set to Coldplay was a fun way to pass the time. Fox has reportedly offered the show a summer run in lieu of a regular season, but given the costs involved with making a high-end series, the studio will probably turn that offer down.
