Confirming what many had suspected and occasionally even suggested out loud to their television screens, the current eighth season of House will indeed be its last. The show’s creative staff (via the network) issued a statement announcing their decision with what appeared to be a heavy heart, which was then properly diagnosed at the last minute as indigestion. “The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party,” it reads in part. “How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.” And now that the producers know that the show is ending, they can take that lingering mystery and solve it with a two-minute Hugh Laurie monologue.
