Fox is scaling back on Making History

Fox, perhaps seeing the glut of time travel stories on the docket this fall season, has opted to cut back on the revised chapters that will make up Making History. According to TV Line, the comedy’s inaugural season order has been reduced from 13 episodes to nine. It will be a while before that reduction is felt, as Making History is slated for a spring 2017 midseason premiere. TV Line’s sources indicate that this isn’t so much a judgment call on the network’s part—Making History’s position as a midseason replacement in the 2017 spring lineup just means only nine episodes are needed.

Making History stars Adam Pally as a brilliant, dorky professor who basically invents a time-traveling device that allows him to court young women in the past. Yassir Lester plays his friend, a history professor, who knows just how bad an idea it is for a black guy to travel back to colonial times (he’s not the only one). The dimension-bending romp comes from former Dads and Cleveland Show writer Julius Sharpe, who executive produces with ubiquitous directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
