Fox orders 30 Rock writer’s comedy about a telekinetic fro-yo employee
Acting on one of those great ideas you wonder why nobody had before now, Fox has ordered a script for a comedy about a 25-year-old frozen-yogurt peddler whose life is going nowhere until she realizes she has telekinetic powers. That script will be written by Colleen McGuinness, who worked as a producer and writer during the sixth and seventh seasons of 30 Rock and recently served as a producer on NBC’s About A Boy. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will act as executive producers through their Pearl Street Films production company, bringing the chances of this unnamed, single-camera show being set in Boston way, way up.
This marks the second big sale for McGuinness in as many years, as she and her former boss Tina Fey also sold NBC on a comedy about a young woman trying to reconnect with her estranged father last August. Beyond the outlines of the premise, little is known about how the young woman at the center of this new show will use her telekinetic powers to improve her life, but it’s presumed she’ll start by making the frozen-yogurt dispensers malfunction before moving on to dismantling society piece by piece.
