"Fox is expanding its relationship with Seth MacFarlane," begins this Hollywood Reporter article, which is a rather understated way to kick off the fifth or sixth "expansion" of said relationship, since the revival of Family Guy saw the network essentially handing over an entire night of its programming to whatever funny voices MacFarlane could come up with, then working with him on revivals of Carl Sagan's Cosmos and The Flintstones. So if there is some metaphorical level of intimacy beyond committed marriage—say, giving MacFarlane a corner office inside its vagina—then Fox has given MacFarlane some plum vagina real estate by developing a live-action show with MacFarlane and Ted writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, giving the show a put-pilot commitment with a "hefty" penalty attached should it not go to series.
The single-camera comedy reportedly concerns two thirtysomething yuppie types and "the insanity that ensues after their crazy fathers unexpectedly move in with them," because old dads be crazy with their old man stuff. And granted, it's not the most imaginative logline, even in the necessarily reductive realm of loglines. But considering the source, there's probably more, likely pop culture-referencing things the logline hasn't cut away to yet. Besides, Fox deeply loves Seth MacFarlane, and relationships are all about trust.
