Fox renews Empire, picks up Jamie Foxx game show

Good news for fans of outrageous family drama—Fox has just ordered a fourth season of Empire. The Lyons will get to continue to alternately duke it out for control of the family business, and band together against outsiders who want to take over their musical Empire. Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Gary Newman and Fox Broadcasting Company president of entertainment David Madden announced the renewal during today’s executive session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Empire remains the no. 1 broadcast drama among adults 18-49, and is the no. 1 broadcast entertainment program among adults 18-34, teens and young women. The third season is currently on winter hiatus, but Cookie & Co. will return in March.

In other music-related TV news, Fox has picked up a new game show, Beat Shazam. A kind of updated Name That Tune, two teams will try to beat each other in correctly naming various hit songs before taking on the music app, Shazam, itself. The game show comes from Mark Burnett and Jeff Apploff, and will be hosted by Jamie Foxx.
