Earlier this week, Last Man Standing fell before ABC’s mighty programming ax. The Tim Allen-led sitcom was performing solidly in the ratings, but ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said the decision to cancel the series wasn’t based on numbers. Neither was it a result of Allen’s conservatives views, no matter what certain petition signers believe. Per Dungey, ABC’s just cutting back on Friday night-placed comedies; the pre-weekend lineup will now consist of Once Upon A Time and Marvel’s Inhumans.
But this setback isn’t going to keep 20th Century Fox Television, which produced the series, from finding a new, possibly even manlier home for Last Man Standing. Studio presidents Jonnie Davis and Howard Kurtzman tell Variety that although the cancellation is “really an open sore right now,” they’re not licked yet. Davis and Kurtzman are “hopeful that we can find another home for it,” which may or may not have a lot sporting goods.
