Frances Bean celebrates Kurt Cobain’s 50th birthday with a handwritten letter to him
Kurt Cobain’s legacy at this point almost exists outside of the three scabrously beautiful punk records he released with Nirvana. He was never easy with his label as the voice of his generation, and his deeply personal and sometimes sugary sweet songs were never intended that way. While the music remains as sturdy as ever, today we’re just as fascinated with the specifics of his person—his journals, which were released in 2003, and his biography, memorably documented in 2015’s Montage Of Heck. His daughter with Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, has remained an object of that fascination, but she’s grown up confidently in his shadow, knowingly donning her late father’s clothes in a shoot for Elle while also striking out on her own as a model and artist.
Today, to commemorate what would’ve been her dad’s 50th birthday, Bean shared a note on Instagram:
You can see our road trip to Cobain’s unofficial memorial in Seattle here.
