Francis Ford Coppola to chronicle lives of multi-generational Italian family for first time ever

Francis Ford Coppola, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Patton, announced at the Produced By conference that he is writing “a multi-generational saga about an Italian American family not unlike his own,” as per Variety. This would be new subject matter for the director, who is primarily known for his work in the field of musicals (One From The Heart) and films about children who suffer from progeria (Jack). A multi-generational saga about an Italian family would be new territory for the director of Apocalypse Now and The Conversation, but given the quality of those two films, it would be something we would eagerly anticipate! Coppola said in 2012 that he looked forward to working with a big studio again and having period-appropriate costumes and the like, so maybe somebody should tell him that big studios have largely stopped making movies with period-appropriate costumes, unless he’s going to work as the assistant director to the Russos on the next Captain America movie. Anyway, we’re betting the director of Peggy Sue Got Married has at least one great Italian family saga in him!

Also, Coppola believes the future of the movies is in “live” presentation, with the director traveling along with a roadshow presentation, and perhaps even “remixing” the film live onstage, as he apparently did from an iPad with the movie Twixt. We like you, but come the fuck on, Francis Ford Coppola!
