By and large, high school bands are terrible. It’s not easy to have much in the way of perspective or musical talent when crafting songs between late night cram sessions, after all. But Los Angeles’ Franky Flowers is the exception to that rule. Though the band is comprised of a trio of high school students, it’s got a perspective—and the musical ability—that’s wise beyond its years. The A.V. Club is premiering the video for “Corpse,” which highlights the band’s adolescent shenanigans as they run through graveyards and partake in mindless mischief. As for the song itself, “Corpse” sounds like what would happen if Built To Spill’s Doug Martsch fronted a pop-punk band, full of bombastic riffing atop a hyper-charged back beat. With an upcoming residency at The Echo in L.A.—with shows on June 6, 13, 20, and 27—it appears Franky Flowers’ summer break will easily best that of its classmates.
